Biological Dentistry in Madrid
The mouth and the body are one interconnected system. At Bio Salud Dental, we have known this since 1992. Our protocol begins with oral health and extends to the systemic wellbeing of the whole organism.

What is biological dentistry?
Biological dentistry is an approach to dental care that recognises the mouth and the body cannot be treated as separate systems. The materials placed in the mouth affect the entire organism, and systemic conditions throughout the body manifest in oral health.
This is not a trend or a marketing concept. It is science: evidence shows that metallic materials in the mouth can release particles into the bloodstream, generate galvanic currents, trigger immune reactions, and contribute to systemic inflammation.
The principles of biological dentistry
Total biocompatibility: we only use materials verified as safe for the body. Zirconia implants instead of titanium. BPA-free composites. Metal-free ceramic crowns. Every material is chosen for its biological compatibility, not for convenience or cost.
Diagnosis before decisions: the MELISA Test allows us to verify whether your body has sensitivity to specific metals before choosing an implant or restoration material. We do not guess. We measure.
Natural disinfection: ozone therapy (medical ozone, O₃) provides powerful disinfection without unnecessary antibiotics, accelerates healing, and modulates the immune system.
Toxin removal: safe amalgam removal is fundamental to eliminating a continuous source of toxicity. Amalgam fillings contain approximately 50% mercury, a cumulative neurotoxin that releases vapour every time you chew.
Assessment of root canal-treated teeth: root canal-treated teeth can harbour anaerobic bacteria and produce toxins (thioether, methanethiol) that migrate into the bloodstream. Biological dentistry evaluates each devitalised tooth as a potential chronic infectious focus.
Systemic protocol: our protocol does not end at the mouth. It includes nutritional correction, vital antioxidant supplementation, and strengthening of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems to maximise healing success after any procedure.
How does it differ from conventional dentistry?
Conventional dentistry treats the mouth as an isolated compartment. It uses the most readily available materials (titanium, amalgam, BPA-containing composites) without evaluating their systemic impact. It relies on antibiotics as a first line of defence and rarely considers the patient's nutrition or immune system.
Biological dentistry, by contrast, considers every dental treatment as an intervention on the entire organism. It is not more expensive or slower. It is more considered and more respectful of your long-term health.
Key differences at a glance
| Aspect | Biological dentistry | Conventional dentistry |
|---|---|---|
| Materials | 100% biocompatible, verified with MELISA Test | Standard (titanium, amalgam, BPA composites) |
| Metals in mouth | Eliminated or avoided | Commonly used |
| Disinfection | Ozone therapy (natural) | Antibiotics (standard) |
| Amalgam fillings | Safely removed with SMART protocol | Often left in place or drilled out without protection |
| Root canal assessment | Evaluated as potential infection source | Rarely questioned |
| Nutrition | Integrated into treatment protocol | Rarely considered |
| Perspective | Whole-body health | Mouth only |
Over 30 years at the forefront
Bio Salud Dental has practised biological restorative dentistry since 1992. Dr. Alejandro Castillo holds a medical degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and specialised in Stomatology and Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery in Paris, at the Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris VI) and René Descartes (Paris V) universities, where the integrative approach to oral health has a long tradition.
Today, alongside his son Dr. Carlos Castillo (CEU San Pablo), he continues this philosophy in Madrid. When they opened their first clinic, biological dentistry barely existed as a concept in Spain. Over three decades later, Bio Salud Dental remains a reference point for patients who seek dentistry that respects the body's natural balance.
International patients travel from across Europe specifically to see Dres. Castillo. Not for price, but for their expertise and approach.
Our approach
What sets Bio Salud Dental apart
100% metal-free
We exclusively use biocompatible materials: zirconia implants, ceramic restorations, and BPA-free composites. No metals, no mercury, no compromise.
MELISA Test integrated
We verify material compatibility with your body before any implant or restoration. This prevents failed treatments and adverse reactions.
Ozone therapy
Natural, antibiotic-free disinfection after every procedure. Accelerates healing and supports the immune system.
Father and son, personally
Dr. Alejandro and Dr. Carlos Castillo personally review every case and perform every procedure. No associates, no intermediaries.
Systemic protocol
Nutritional correction, antioxidant supplementation, and immune support to maximise healing. Treatment does not end at the mouth.
International patients welcome
Consultations in English and Spanish. We help coordinate your visit to Madrid and offer video consultations for initial case review.
Frequently asked questions
What you should know
Biological dentistry is an approach that treats oral health from a whole-body perspective, understanding that the mouth and the body are interconnected. It uses 100% biocompatible materials, sensitivity testing such as the MELISA Test, natural disinfection techniques like ozone therapy, and protocols that include nutrition and immune system support.
The terms are very similar. Both share an integrative view of oral health. At Bio Salud Dental, we prefer the term 'biological restorative dentistry' because it emphasises both the scientific basis and the functional and aesthetic restoration.
Zirconia implants (ceramic, metal-free), ceramic crowns made from zirconia or lithium disilicate, BPA-free composites, and no materials containing mercury, nickel, or heavy metals.
Metals in the mouth can generate galvanic currents (micro-electricity between different metals), release metal ions into the bloodstream, trigger hypersensitivity reactions, and contribute to systemic inflammation. Removing them reduces the body's toxic burden.
Absolutely. Biological dentists hold the same university qualifications and professional registration as any conventional dentist, with additional training in biocompatible materials, dental toxicology, and integrative medicine. Dr. Alejandro Castillo holds a medical degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and specialist training from the universities of Paris.
